I always thought it was just semantics. Like, is there a difference between a hero and a hoagie? A sub and a footlong? I don’t think I’ve ever had a cinnamon “bun”, even at a place that served me a supposed “bun” (Cinnabon?). It’s rolled, so it’s a roll. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Oh, sticky buns! Now THAT makes sense to me. A sticky bun isn’t really all that cinnamon-y. Also, it has a clear glaze instead of white frosting. I’m glad the internet consensus confirmed that there is basically no difference between a cinnamon roll and a cinnamon bun. But a sticky bun, now that’s different territory altogether. 😁
