okay i just need to go off about this whole "brown diamond" thing because i have been DROWNING in feelings about it all day. this is either copy-pasted or summarised from what i typed to my friends while watching. theoretically this is more suited to the youtube comment section than the society, because it's 95% about the main channel video and not the behind-the-scenes, but i like the vibes in the society better.

there are literally hundreds of things i did not include here. i have been talking about this thing. for 10 hours. i'm being very normal about it. extremely normal.

- i pegged (pun intended) this being a queer story in the first 5 seconds because of the way it opened on that pose. homoph0bes see that and F right off immediately, this one's for the queers

- both of these characters are autistic. these-here boys got themselves some puzzle hyperfixations. (same, fam. 1000 piece puzzle going in the living room as i type this.) sandy has some kind of sensory obsession (powder everywhere all the time). and cricket leg and hand-clap stimming. love that for him, except for the toxic talc (which i only found out about 3 weeks ago is toxic). i am trying not to think about how a puzzle piece is also the logo for the "charity" autism speaks, which sucks and needs to die.

- talkin about their relationship while in a room full of ships. i see you director's subtext

- THE WAY I CAN TELL NICK IS THE ONE BEHIND THE CAMERA JUST BY THAT ONE HALF-CHUCKLE . NICK YOU HAVE A WEIRDLY DISTINCTIVE HUM

- they keep. making. characters. who are on the cusp of becoming lovers but there's just SOMETHING in the WAY

- HOW DO THEY MAKE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH CHARACTERS SO QUICKLY I DON'T THINK ANYONE HAS EVER BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS TO ME BEFORE

- "i love you" I AM ACTUALLY GONNA F-CKING CRY RIGHT NOW

- THEY COULD'VE PUT THEIR OWN HANDS INTO THE THIRD A55HOLE.

- i am both smiling because i had a good time and also on the verge of tears because noo

- i feel like rhett and link are trying to represent aspects of their own friendship, and what their platonicness means to them. and make things that show how they love each other. except in fiction it just reads as queer af because they keep making characters who are either struggling to express their feelings of affection (rabbit lightning, the 1984 characters if you pretend they existed in 1984) or are very open to expressing them (also rabbit lightning, the d&d characters), and both of these things are things queer people are gonna relate to. (i mean, not that feelings are exclusive to queer folks, just that these stories are relatable). i guess rhett and link mean it to also be a representation for straight men to live up to as well, because scr3w toxic masculinity, tell your friends you love them and stretch their hamstrings with your hand in their ta1nt, whatever, but like. i see it both ways at once. schrodinger's queers. it being fiction makes it so much easier to just claim it as a queer thing because it's intentionally up for interpretation.

- especially in their fictional character backstories they keep making up characters who
a) are single and not even considering love
or
b) are rejected or abandoned by everyone who loves them, including romantic interests
resulting in
c) they only have each other to love.
and that's not true for rhett and link irl. they have wives they love and are still able to love each other as fiercely as they are representing. therefore they are not representing themselves directly in these characters, they are making stories using fragments of themselves, in a world where they can and do love each other fully and entirely but can't. quite. get. to whatever is meant to be next. all these stories REVOLVE AROUND THEIR RELATIONSHIP and they're dismantling the communication process and how they feel about each other. and i feel like it's missing SOMETHING. all their characters need to take one more step and i don't know what that step is, yet. something keeps being left unsaid.

- this one was just a f-cking [romantic] love story though. i cannot even imagine what else it's meant to be.
kindred spirits looking back on what they've done for each other for love, then dying for that love with their love on their lips. like. again what i said about how everyone else left them and they only understand and love each other. and that love is the most pure and intense thing.

- COMBINED WITH QUEER SUBTEXT (see: horst's sausage. and the connection between horst being afraid of 5TDs but wanting to have s3x, and sandy just refusing to take an 5TD test. like that was always the barrier between them. i'll do anything for love but i won't do that. sandy won't take a test, except the three-a55hole riddle was in fact a test and he passed... then failed because he loved horst too much.)

- and like. they open with horst posed with his crotch at sandy's a**. i may not be an expert at filmmaking but i know d*mn well that you tell your whole story with the first and last lines (or opening and closing shot), and what we have is THEY WANNA BANG at the start, to THEY LOVE EACH OTHER at the end. that's your story right there. and it's queer, folks

- this is a good place to add that link confirmed this was intended as a romance in the behind the scenes here. and then CORRECTED TO BROMANCE FOR SOME REASON. WHY

- link was so obvious about his character's daddy and abandonment issues in the d&d, and rhett will bring up the fact link has abandonment issues at any time (see the 20 minute hug episode). given "brown diamond" was unscripted but well-planned, it seems apparent that they decided sandy's abandonment backstory beforehand (enough to know they needed to bring milk in a bag). which means they yet again are drawing from themselves to make these characters. so i guess link knows he's projecting his tr4uma onto his characters??

This was so funny and creative - I love when you guys do character bits for sketches/Gmm (Kool-aid clean up guy, Damnyell, that weird cashier Link played one time) and this felt like that expanded. Did anyone else feel so sad for Horst especially? Just want to hug him.
