I enjoy knowing that Rhett openly dislikes catch phrases. I could always sense his distaste but i needed this reassurance. Thank you! First comment as a 3rd degree! yaaaay!
I don't like "Josh what did you do", but I love this one!!🤩
I've always thought I missed links old hair but I'm good now lol
9:15 The way Link says, "You don't you like it?" and looks at Rhett is the funniest thing ever
I laughed so hard when Rhett said "it felt like a little death", since "little death" in french means orga$m, i'm dead.
I signed up for Mythical Society just for these origin videos and I love them. I really hope they do more.
SAME
Absolutely LOVE these Origin Docuseries!!! We need more! I want to hear the origins of "let's talk about that!", Mythical Moms, Larnold and Rusty, Rabbit Lightning, Chonk, the Brian nametag, Damyell & Richard, Cotton Candy Randy and all the rest!!! Thank you for these!!!
I love this catchphrase! It gets me so excited for what's about to happen lol
And can I just add.. these origin episodes sold me on joining the Mythical Society! :) I've been a fan since Good Morning Chia Lincoln!
Rhett, I don't like the 'Whaaaaat' either.
I skip it every time.
Link's reaction to Rhett's "I like that" is so sweet!
I really liked this discussion about catchphrases, routine, comfort, community, and this difference of opinion and how it demonstrates Rhett's and Link's different personalities. Overall, this is a great series and I'm so happy you will be making more!
Just want to acknowledge that there are 69 comments before I post mine. Nice.
Catchphrases are comforting, in a way. But it's also an "inside joke" territory, where you know someone else has watched the same content because they know "As you can see, we can't" or "Let's talk about that" or "Boiled for safety". It's why GMM t-shirts with these phrases sell out fast! Makes it easier to run into a Mythical Beast in the wild and it's amazing when you both get the reference.
Even though it's one of my favorite shirts, the "Oh my flavors" was a one-time phrase that just didn't carry over. I legit didn't even know it was from an episode when I purchased the shirt. I thought it was just some random, silly phrase and wanted to support the charity.
This really gave couples therapy vibes. It's like Rhett and Link talking about their thoughts and different perspectives on parenting and marriage but the marriage/children in this case is GMM. Love these 2 work husbands ❤️
Totally called Rhett not liking whaaaaat! Could see it all over his face, sort of makes it funnier? haha I also always wondered if Megan Wolf still watches and if she knows they still use them today! Side note, watching them take turns guessing what the other was thinking in each clip was so entertaining... maybe even game-able?
Whaaaaaaaat is one of my favorite gags
Oh wow, I want more of those! For example, the Sprite can, feeding Link strawberries etc.
Hearing their thoughts on this is really interesting! We learned something about both of them while watching. I love that Rhett talked about his acknowledgment and acceptance of the fact this would be a catch phrase, and even though he didn't love it, he know it would be good for the show.
this is my favorite one
A routine =Ritual?
i've been trying to find who started at catchphrase and all it tells me is the link from good mythical morning my question is are you thinking of maybe trademarking it?
awe they were so happy during this episode, I love how Link just finds it hilarious that Rhett doesn't like his catchphrases lmao
it's okay Rhett , I dislike the "Josh, what did you do????" with a quite a burning passion myself lol.
I love the rest though.
Yeah, that's the only one I don't really care for too. I don't know why, it just feels forced and weird.
I remember the second time he said it and I definitely thought that was the first time😂
International food taste test is my favorite segment! I love learning about new places!
Imagine being the woman that sent them the blindfolds! That must feel really awesome knowing they have used them for 8 years at this point!
I love this catchphrase, it's so innocent and funny and obvious, it's the quintessential element of the show, like DNA!!!
When I saw the Mythical Crew Montage I got three feels. You can tell they have allot of fun and none of them take GMM for granted. They really are the definition of family.
The first time I heard Link say that I laughed really hard because I thought it was good. I had no idea at the time that it would become a thing. lol
I love their dynamic so much! they're just so much fun to watch and listen to. also, Link's cardigan game has been on point from the very beginning of gmm :)
This was awesome!! So much history. Love this!! Can't wait for the next one. Let's go!!
I love when they are just comfortable and being themselves. I feel like I'm just listening in on a friendly chat!
i finally caved and joined bc i wanted to watch these!! so fun to watch
sameee
Same
Kinda glad Rhett mentioned it; the "Josh what did you do?" makes me cringe a bit every time. Though I have noticed and appreciate the alternate ways they have been asking lately 🙂
I actually for the life of me, can't remember the context of the "Josh what did you do?" phrase....like does it happen when they were asking him how he made the food?
Same lol
Same, omg! I didn't know it was a catchphrase, but it annoyed me every time.
I absolutely love their friendship! Rhett and link can tell what each other are thinking just by a "yeah" or their facial expressions! haha it's great!
I can't lie the Tokyo thing was funny to me at first but I feel like there was a point where it came up so frequently it would bother me so much and I would have to fast forward through it hahah
I also have to skip through it. Since Rhett also hates it, maybe they can add a poll in next census and try to see if enough fans hate it too to stop making Rhett do it.
I agree Emma. It now is almost a little painful to listen to and I also just skip through it. Sorry Rhett. lol
Hahaha same!
Wow this is gonna be an awesome series! And i honestly figured Rhett didn’t enjoy catch phrases jus based on his personality, but he’s a good sport when it comes to us mythical beasts and what we want and enjoy
That's what I was thinking as well. He doesn't seem as tickled about them as Link but the dedication to the Mythical Beasts is admirable!
As a fairly new mythical beast (2 years! :)) I've been hoping for a series like this for so long! I love getting to know the origins of these things.
I love the catchphrases!!! Link is the best <3
Also fun fact..... all of the "Brian" name tags are stuck on the side of the file cabinet ( over Rhett's right side). The name tags are not visible in a typical GMM episode, yet in a behind the scenes on the Society Link once showed that's were the ' collection ' of used name tags go.
Wow, this is a lot more well made than I expected, it feels like a professional documentary
I'm loving this content. so glad I finally joined up.
I love having these videos available. I have been watching since season three or four and have forgotten a lot of this stuff. Thank you so much ya'll.
I love this so much!!!!
i understand Rhett not wanting to disappoint fans, but the fact that he really does not like doing these catchphrases is so sad to me... :( like he shouldn't have to do something he despises doing. sadly, though, much like when they got rid of "let's talk about that" (another catch phrase), i'm sure if they stopped the Tokyo thing the fans would be very angry. but to me, i think it's not worth making him do it if he doesn't like it so much.
I'm not a huge fan of catchphrases in general, but this one always makes me happy. And I'm loving this series. Now I'm thinking, does "What are the chances?" count as a catchphrase? Rhett?
Well it's one of the phrases on his plushie so maybe? I'll say it sort of counts but not as significantly as some of the others
Maaaybee? But that one also feels like a bit. I can't even really connect it to anything specific. It's also not one I see many people quoting and I don't feel sad if I don't hear it.
This is so cool to get to watch and learn about the both of you! I can't watch to watch the others later on! Thanks for sharing, the both of ya ❤️❤️
I have learned so much from this, I love it. But I agree with Rhett, I don't care for the phrase "Josh, what did you do?".
i love these episodes of the history of the show. I've been watching for 8-9 years and all of the catchphrases are so iconic!
I knew these would be interesting but it is even more endearing and informative how you two discuss the things together! I'm on Link's train with comforting routines, love you both lots!
I love that catch phrase
I was totally blindsided by Rhett disliking catch phrases. Like, WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?? Hahaha, sorry. 🙈 But I completely agree with the logic behind so many of us liking it. I said it earlier today, I'm a creature of habit and routine and I find comfort in the familiar. I find massive satisfaction in the catch phrases and I don't think that will ever change. 😂 I appreciate it so much. 🥰
I have ALWAYS wondered this. THANK YOU!
Rhett, please just say if there's something you don't like!!!! And by that, I mean say something to Link and/or the crew right away, don't let it fester! I'm glad he opened up to admitting this finally, and now I understand why he often seems hesitant to do things like "dink it and sink it" with Link, the catchphrase king. I love Link's catchphrases, and I love Rhett's desire to always be making something new and fresh. It's that balance that makes GMM magical.
Oh how fun! This is a great idea for some special anniversary content. :)
I love the set for this video series--with the gentle lighting and the GMM set in the background. Looks so beautiful!
I'm alredy loving and learning new things thanks to this series!!! I've never noticed Rhett's "I like that" after Link said "as you can see, we can't" for the first time, that's crazy!
And Link's joy when he realized that too!
what happened to put put?
it is very difficult to get a laugh out of my husband but when he overheard Link say this catchphrase he started cracking up! we love it!
oh to be the mythical beast that sent the awesome blindfolds in!!! what an honor to have your gift used regularly throughout the show!
Yes! I remember when that episode came out and I thought they were so perfect! I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had sent something in that was used so often. Those blindfolds are iconic.
still like it would like to see more
I loved hearing this insight and seeing the timeline! The boys' blindfolds and this particular catchphrase are two of my favorite pieces of the GMM culture. 🥰
Link's giddiness at about 10:25 is so contagious. Love this first installment!
I didn't realize how much I loved routine until GMM 😂 I'm a sucker for every catchphrase and tradition you have ❤️
I really hope the Rhetts personal video camera gag for darts comes back as a multi season runner, that was one of my favorite gags
Loved this first installment!!
they should do an episode where they say "As you can't see, we can!" and the screen is black for a couple of seconds
That would be a good April fools day episode.
This series is just such a fantastic idea. I’m absolutely loving it. Thank you for sharing these backstories with us.
does anyone remember the Brian nametag oragin?
The crew went to a rhyming dictionary site to find a name that rhymed with Diet for a diet drink taste test I think. For some reason Brian was the name it came up with, and since it didn’t rhyme at all it became a joke.
