watching this while keyed is such a wild ride haha

Tina on January 18, 2022 at 12:39 am

I forgot about the epic WHAT they did. it really was the best one with all the cool graphics and edits. love that bit. loved seeing Rhetts transformation of thoughts on it.

Paige Tetro on January 17, 2022 at 6:22 pm

ok but FOREEAL. where's rhett's sweater from 😂 i need it!

Juan José Márquez Villacís on January 17, 2022 at 9:06 am

I thought you were also showing, later after the first time he says it, in Good Mythical More, where we messed it up😂😂

Jade Burrell on January 16, 2022 at 7:40 pm

hahah it's ok if you still don't like it, Rhett. I've always been on the fence about it but it does feel weird when it's not there. It's an odd and chaotic bit which is so mythical

Dawn E Bliss on January 16, 2022 at 11:10 pm

I like the whaaaat - but I think I'd like it better at 8-10 seconds 😊

Kerry on January 16, 2022 at 1:18 pm

I have always loved the Tokyo bit & I'm so glad Rhett gained a new perspective while watching those vids. I remember my first live Rhett & Link and the chills and giggles I experienced hearing that long it's in person. 💜

Sam Green on January 16, 2022 at 3:58 am

I'm kinda glad Rhett said 'annoyingly long' coz sometimes the 'Whaaaaat' is annoyingly long lol but that's sorry I missed it remix of the Tokyo tour Whattt LOVE and we need more like that 😁

Laurie Owen on January 16, 2022 at 7:47 am

I always liked Rhett being the master of the rule change on this. Somehow it makes this even better when you never know how he will react 😆.

Josh Clinton on January 15, 2022 at 3:32 pm

I LOVE Tokyo - simply for the fact that somewhere there is someone experiencing it for the first time and being completely caught off guard. Then if they go back and watch old episodes and see it happen again - with still NO EXPLANATION? It makes the rabbit hole go even deeper! It's a kind of absurdity I can really appreciate and helps GMM stand out.

Elias Pers on January 15, 2022 at 6:25 am

Anyone else think Rhett at 5:20 looks EXACTLY like Steve from Stranger Things, even acts like him too! xP

Rachel Black on January 15, 2022 at 12:42 am

The fact that Rhett hates doing it means I now love it :D

Beth O'Donnell on January 14, 2022 at 3:16 pm

Tokyo is one of my absolute favourite things about gmm

Shannon Foust on January 14, 2022 at 10:53 am

I actually have always hated the Tokyo bit and always skipped past it. After this episode, I'm on Team Rhett and I may have changed my mind just a little bit. lol But I also think it'd be hilarious if one of the times when someone says Tokyo, Rhett just deadpanned into the camera and said "no."

Kayse Angel on January 14, 2022 at 5:38 am

Link saying it would be such a shock at first but also kind of amazing :)

Larry D. Lewis on January 14, 2022 at 4:33 am

These origins are exceptionally entertaining!

Rebecca Brown on January 13, 2022 at 2:55 pm

It's actually kind of nice hearing you don't like Tokyo. I admittedly usually click past that part. It's the only part my brain can't handle other than when Link is basically puking.

Caroline Wiltz on January 13, 2022 at 1:29 pm

Oh yes please, more Tokyo WHAAAT like the #625 episode!!!
Maybe some beasties can help editing, it could be a Mythical thing!!
Anyway, love, love, LOVE Tokyo WHAAAT!!!!

Anne R Basile on January 13, 2022 at 9:27 pm

the #1 rule of Tokyo are that the rules are made up on the spot

John Henry Evans on January 13, 2022 at 1:25 pm

I can confirm, when I first saw the Tokyo bit, I had no idea what was going on and immediate got lost in a Google hole trying to figure out where this thing came from.

Rosemary G Jarrell on January 13, 2022 at 1:24 pm

Love this series. You guys are the best!

Paul Jolly on January 13, 2022 at 1:05 pm

Oh, and please can LTAT come back?

Paul Jolly on January 13, 2022 at 1:03 pm

Is that fake beard Rhett at 09:15?

Gracie Greene on January 13, 2022 at 7:21 pm

love the Link Tokyo Easter egg too

Greer Miceli on January 13, 2022 at 4:55 pm

ok but where did Rhett get that sweater??

Tamrie Oliver on January 13, 2022 at 12:47 pm

why does this remind me of Zoolander when Will Ferrell is trying to brainwash Ben? ha

Holly on January 13, 2022 at 9:33 am

I'll always be a fan. GMM has the most supportive, kindest, and coolest fan base and it's because of the energy and joy you guys out out everyday. thank you for all the bits and catchphrases and everything in between. it's a fun time and I'm so grateful that my daughter introduced us in 2014. I went back and now have seen every single episode, evolution, friend fight and the whole shibang. Thank you for giving us a happy place to relax and laugh.

Rachelle Berry on January 13, 2022 at 1:16 am

I’ve been watching GMM for YEARS, and honestly at any point in my life when I hear someone say ‘Toyko’ I am confused as to why Rhett isn’t saying ‘Whaaaaaaaaaaa…aaaat’. It’s ingrained that it must be done.

Levi Curiel on January 13, 2022 at 6:21 am

You guys missed one of THEE BEST TOKYOS EVER in my opinion, which was when Rhett started saying Tokyo and out of nowhere Link started hitting his chin hahaha man that made me laugh. Thank you for these docuseries guys. Really enjoying them. 🙌

Scott Emerson on January 12, 2022 at 10:19 pm

Luckily, the bit has been around long enough that Rhett and family have since adopted the ACTUAL cat chasing the laser in the video for the "Tokyo" bit, and it has lived with them long enough to change the fact that Rhett ACTUALLY loves cats now. /S. #sarcasm. Fun fact, he still doesn't like community college. #FACTS

Heather Pellegrini on January 13, 2022 at 5:53 am

so really it all started when link said “Tokyo” and then Rhett goin “Whaaaat” 😂

Jason Kehoe on January 12, 2022 at 9:50 pm

Love watching this!! Best idea ever!

William Maynard on January 12, 2022 at 6:27 pm

I've only been watching for about a year now and I must admit.....I was so confused the first time I saw the Tokyo, Whaaaat bid. Glad to know the backstory

Elizabeth Casimiro on January 12, 2022 at 5:34 pm

Rhett completely changing his mind half way through this is pure gold 😂

Jodi Collier on January 13, 2022 at 1:25 am

When I first started watching I watched an episode with my best friend where Rhett got Tokyo'd and she asked why. I had never seen him do it before that and didn't know, so for months she would randomly ask if I had figured it out yet until I finally saw the episode 😂

Gaby Germanos on January 12, 2022 at 5:04 pm

It's *champing at the bit, Link. Champing, not chomping.
It's like "home/hone in" all over again!

Karla Willis on January 13, 2022 at 3:39 am

It's both, Chomping is a variation of it and the one I've heard most often.

Cara Berry on January 12, 2022 at 4:45 pm

I've started using "that was my nickname in high school" on an almost daily basis. It's never not hilarious... to me. I'm sure everyone around me is tired of it. But I don't care. lol

Deanna Hoyt on January 12, 2022 at 3:42 pm

I grew up watching The Muppet Show so running gags are a part of life for our household haha.

StormCrow on January 12, 2022 at 6:23 pm

Mah Na Mah Na

Actuallyvirtual on January 12, 2022 at 2:43 pm

i like their more casual one-liners like "as you can see we cant", they are cute frames for a really theme heavy show, they work well on the spot even for a first time watcher without being too obnoxios/confusing, they are quick and almost easy to ignore if its not your thing. thats exacty why this tokyo bit doesnt really work for me and its actually quite a bit annoying, it feels very forced and takes too much time sometimes. probably doesnt help that -at least for me, its been obvious that rhett doesnt like doing it with the way he reacts when it happens lmao

Rachel Nunn on January 12, 2022 at 2:35 pm

Love watching Rhett chsnge his mind and decide he loved the bit now haha
And that super Tokyo montage was indeed 'peak' Tokyo to me, i rememver lauging so hard when i saw that because its so ridiculous and unexpected.

Abigail Loughran on January 12, 2022 at 2:33 pm

I love the bit and often try to have a longer what. I never win though..........

Anna Baldwin on January 12, 2022 at 2:04 pm

The great thing about their catchphrases they don't push them constantly, like they creep up every now and then and it's such a fun throwback. (People asking them to constantly do them during the livestreams must be kinda tiresome for them hahaha)

Absolutely love this series, thank you so much, a wonderful celebration!!

Anna Baldwin on January 12, 2022 at 2:08 pm

also love Rhett's 180 in this hahahaha

Jared Morris on January 12, 2022 at 1:54 pm

started watching 2 years ago and the first ever episode I saw included the Tokyo bit. Can confirm I was BEYOND confused lmaoooo

Ann Margaret Lummus on January 12, 2022 at 12:05 pm

4:17 Lol! I was relieved they cut off-didn't play the bit again and in funny way. It is not that big of a deal, but I liked the Tokyo bit only the first time.

Cory Casburn on January 12, 2022 at 7:47 pm

I love everything about these mini-docs! Thank you boys, and thank you Mythical Crew! ❤️

Robert Harless on January 12, 2022 at 11:40 am

Finally, I get to see where it originated from! It’s amazing to see that it all developed in one episode

Carmen Freeman on January 12, 2022 at 11:05 am

I have been watching this show since the start but somehow I always missed the Tokyo episodes and I saw my first one in like 2019/2020 idek and I was so confused as to how I had never seen it before and everyone in the comments knew what was going on.

Erica Darnell on January 12, 2022 at 7:02 pm

"DO WE HAVE NO STANDARDS HERE??" 🤣👏🏻 Also...that was the very first time I've ever heard the term "umami" used in a non-foody context.
THAT EPIC TOKYO MONTAGE!! Oh my gosh, I laughed my TAIL off!! I've seen it before but it is no less impressive on repeat! 🤣 Rhett has an *amazing* supernote capability, he really does. you should be mighty proud, sir. Mighty proud. 👏🏻

Paul T Burdick on January 12, 2022 at 7:00 pm

wow he sure can Wwwwhhhhaaaattttt a long time

Lindsey Busby on January 12, 2022 at 6:54 pm

This series is my new favorite thing 🤗 I haven't smiled this much in awhile! Thank you for sitting down and chatting with us! Now for episode 3! BEST DAY EVER!

Justin Brown on January 12, 2022 at 10:54 am

Why not a digital version of "The Scroll" where the whole Scroll, to keep up with the times, has been transferred to a "Stone Tablet" (iPad) and then you could just "scroll" through the rules.

Heather L Hogan on January 12, 2022 at 10:44 am

The things that made me laugh the most: The first time "Whaaat" went on a little bit too long, the thought of people seeing it for the first time and being confused and going back and watching old episodes to figure it out, and the fact that the best-ever wild edited Tokyo was in response to them forgetting it, and then... the mind-explosion that Rhett has that he has never seen it from the viewer's perspective and now he finally truly appreciates it (but maybe he can never appreciate it to the full extent since it's the unexpected nature of it that makes it so funny).

Mark Stanley on January 12, 2022 at 10:12 am

Lol at the ending. :)
I like to time the "Whaaat" to see what Rhett achieves. My favorite is still the "bloooood" competition where he goes 45(?) seconds, then Link says that it's all that Tokyo stuff, and Rhett almost passes out fulfilling the bit.

Bryant Lenoir on January 12, 2022 at 9:47 am

I would love to know the total amount of time the Tokyo-What bit has taken up through the years.

Julia Okonska on January 12, 2022 at 9:10 am

From enemies to lovers - Rhett's history with Tokyo bit 😂

I really think the fun part about this bit is that no one knows when it's gonna happen. And now I can't wait for the first Tokyo of season 21!

Ashley Casperite on January 12, 2022 at 9:07 am

The end was *chef kiss*

Keily Leiva-Diaz on January 12, 2022 at 4:16 pm

My all time favorite Tokyo moment was when I went to Rhett & Link live on April 7th, 2019 and someone in the crowd said it-- Rhett of course broke the rules and to this day, I regret not recording it.

Christina Price on January 12, 2022 at 4:53 pm

Hearing it live was incredible! I was at that same show, but I didn't record it either.

Katie M Wilson on January 12, 2022 at 4:07 pm

I'm like Rhett so this bit started to get old for me too but now after watching this I'm "re-intrigued" by it 😆

Ryan Mauro on January 12, 2022 at 3:43 pm

Rhett went through a recurring bit evolution in this episode and it must be commended

Tommy Hetrick on January 12, 2022 at 6:47 am

the way Rhett completely changed his mind throughout this episode ahahha

Amy Purifoy on January 12, 2022 at 2:42 pm

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?

Natalie Jones on January 12, 2022 at 2:32 pm

Watching the evolution of Rhett's feelings about "Tokyo" throughout this video was a joy. 😂

Nathan Gauthier on January 12, 2022 at 2:26 pm

Tokyo is my favorite recuring bit! Always fun ^^

Rachel Adepoju on January 12, 2022 at 1:53 pm

that ending was perfect

Erika K Jones on January 12, 2022 at 1:48 pm

Recurring jokes like this are why I had to go back to the beginning to watch every episode in order (because that's definitely the best way to do things 😉). Once I realized there were these inside jokes and bits I had to see how they started

Sidenote: I love this Rhett sweater 😍

Robert Croyl on January 12, 2022 at 5:15 am

as someone who does fast forwards through the WHAAAAAAT, i still appreciate the bit.

Addie Iaccino on January 12, 2022 at 12:24 pm

OMG I'm crying laughing watching this remembering how amazing Toyko is 😂😂

Jane Walker on January 12, 2022 at 12:08 pm

I was one of those confused people when I first came across a Tokyo bit. But I eventually tracked down the origins.
