I forgot to say, I just stay up have a snack like string cheese all in the dark. Then I try and sleep again and so far I have fallen asleep at least half the time for another hour or two. My18 year old has the same problem still from a baby to college.

Aaras Von Monovski on September 7, 2022 at 2:11 pm

I have had the same issue, then my best friend and even my mom. Staying up at 3am every day sucks. I'm on months of this and it is driving me nuts.

Suzanne Tobias on April 12, 2022 at 8:39 pm

Why is no one talking about the sign off sneeze 🤣

Chandra Reed on April 6, 2022 at 2:44 pm

I've been wondering what those rings are that you guys have been wearing for a while, I'm sporadic with MS and I'm sorry. I had to look it up and found the Oura ring, is that what y'all are wearing? Is it any better and more convenient than a FitBit?

Chandra Reed on April 6, 2022 at 2:19 pm

When I can't go back to sleep I put on my favorite guided meditation list on Spotify and if I have to I pull out the "medicine" and light up. Works every time.

Kristina Glasgow on April 2, 2022 at 3:46 pm

Can't lie - if I were Jessie and the dog had the craps and I stepped in it.... He might have gotten a light swat for shushing me as I stood there with crap up my clothes and all over the floor. This might be why I'm single. Though I do feel for Rhett's sleep problems. Horrible when your mind won't shut down and let you sleep. Read to 1:30 in the morning last night and was up bright and early with my brain fresh and alert despite the tiredness. Evening now and rocking a headache.

Kristina Glasgow on April 2, 2022 at 3:37 pm

Wondering if adding a vitamin to the evening or morning routine might add something the body wants? Therefore helping facilitate sleep?

I’ve been unintentionally intermittent fasting and I’ve this past week been dealing really bad with insomnia and this was a light bulb moment 😅

Elizabeth Casimiro on April 1, 2022 at 9:54 pm

I have started a new diet change recently. For me, intermittent fasting didn’t work at all. i am now just eating small portions of healthier food and after 3 weeks i am down almost 4 lbs! Sleep has always been a struggle for me ( its 1am as I type this) but i am hoping with my physical activity and better eating my sleep will improve. I also have 3 dogs. 2 sleep in bed with my husband and I and 1 sleep in his crate in our room. We’ve had discussions about moving all the dogs to crates, but i sleep even worse when the 2 little dogs aren’t with me.

Cindy Luchsinger on March 23, 2022 at 11:40 pm

I have lived with insomnia most of my life. When I was a child I never fell asleep fast, it always took me a long time to go to sleep. As I aged it has become worse. I am now 52 years old and there is may nights that I don't get any sleep at all. I have a sleep doctor I have been seeing for the past few years. He has tried many medications on me, but the only one that has every really helped, is Lunesta. It does not work perfect but at least I get some sleep. What actually works best for me is a sleep schedule. I go to bed and get up at the same time every day. If I can't fall asleep within 30 minutes then I get up and do something like reading a book or watch tv, nothing that keeps my mind racing too much. Plus I never watch TV in bed. It isn't perfect but at least I get some sleep.

Diana Borasio on March 20, 2022 at 10:48 pm

It's called 'Fatal Familial Insomnia' and it's hereditary. So if there's no history of it in your family tree, you don't have it. It's extremely rare.

Karin Ross on March 20, 2022 at 2:35 pm

CBN for sleep. Best is from Vesl.

Angela C Kirsch on March 19, 2022 at 5:57 pm

Rhett should try cannabis with delta 9 t h c. You could also try sleeping alone. there are plenty of happily married couples that sleep in seperate beds because it helps them sleep. Just some suggestions. Good luck on figuring this out.

Zoie Yell on April 20, 2022 at 6:13 pm

My partner and I also have separate bedrooms. It has been a game changer. I am a super light sleeper and have suffered from insomnia since childhood. My partner ended up liking it more than anticipated, plus he likes being able to decorate his own room.

Diana Borasio on March 20, 2022 at 10:51 pm

This is very true. My partner and I have separate bedrooms and baths. When we're in the mood for a little 'fun' time, we flip a coin to see whose room we use. He gets super hot and wants his room ice cold. I toss and turn and just can't sleep with someone next to me. Separate rooms works out great!

David Greenawalt on March 19, 2022 at 7:54 am

My sleep is broken. Can't sleep past 5 am. I am old though so maybe that's it. Good luck dude.

Kathy Decker on March 19, 2022 at 12:11 am

Me and sleep don’t get along to well these days, but that’s because of my 19-20 yr old cat and her cat food has to be mixed, when she comes to me at night I have to feed her or mix it. I don’t mind at all.
I started using a Bypap machine several years ago (almost like a Cpap machine) after I found out I was trying to catch my breath at night, I would wake myself up sometimes because of it. Now that I have the Bypap, it only takes me a few minutes to an hour to fall asleep, but I also have to have some sort of noise in the background. Unfortunately I am not able to get out of bed, so if I were to wake up, i just watch YouTube or play a game on my phone or tablet till I can fall asleep.
What’s even more unfortunate is that I am cursed with a mother asking me most of my life, “You look tired, did you sleep ok?”🤬Just because of the way my eyes look😤
Love you lots!

Alfred Arduini on March 18, 2022 at 6:44 am

Link and his god damn smoothie xD

StormCrow on March 17, 2022 at 7:14 pm

can't Rember the last time I ate breakfast. Still get up random times. Full moon can never sleep.

Kathryn M Libbey on March 17, 2022 at 6:29 am

Can't sleep? Pot gummies friend. Take a gummy.

Jill Sanders on March 17, 2022 at 3:07 am

I am watching this at 5:00 am, because I woke up at 3:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. PERFECT timing on topic!!

Heather G. Kreager on March 17, 2022 at 1:53 am

When I can't sleep I would watch a few episodes of you show to calm back down. The one thing I got to have every day is my crystal light with caffeine in it. What i tell my little cousins, "Never give up your dream but be will to change it."

Jade Avery (they/them) on March 16, 2022 at 9:16 pm

I've been intermittent fasting on and off for about 5 years and I always notice after the first couple weeks, I feel really hyper and that is what makes it hard to sleep some times. I'll really have to get a good work out in to feel drained enough of energy to fall asleep easy enough. I'll also do my pt stretches and mediate before bed, no screens 30 minutes before bed etc... really preparing the body and mind for sleep. I also really identify with getting caught up in my head when I do wake up. Some times getting out of bed does help because it gets me out of my head but other times my body will just stay in awake mode until sun up. It definitely takes different tactics and a strong self awareness but there are ways to make it work! I also notice that I get deeper sleep when I intermittent fast and feel generally happier and clear headed so I think it's all worth it for me. I also know it's not for everyone.

Hope this all helps!

Heather Pellegrini on March 17, 2022 at 4:07 am

for me if for some reason I can’t sleep, I’ll either drink some hot chocolate or sleepy time tea. or I’ll go on to YouTube and listen to some asmr and normally that does that justice 🤷🏻‍♀️ and then I tend to doze back off 😴

Leanne A on March 17, 2022 at 2:49 am

#TeamCPAP I didn't know how bad my sleep was until I was set up with my CPAP. (Rhett's description was pretty dead on)

Meghan Grannas on March 16, 2022 at 5:31 pm

I deal with insomnia. It takes its toll, but I also think it's because of my anxiety. My anxiety meds help somewhat, but I still end up having a hard time falling asleep, or getting up at a certain time of the night and not being able to go back to sleep. Usually when that happens, I'll either get something to eat, put on the TV (at a low volume) or put on some soothing music to help relax me. I try not to do anything to engage my brain too much because then I won't be able to get back to sleep at all.

I wish you luck, Rhett!

Paisley Tremblay on March 16, 2022 at 4:56 pm

I am intermittent fasting right now as well and am learning to balance eating at different times than normal.

I would remind you guys that one way to begin intermittent fasting isn’t with cutting out any meals but just having them all in the eating window… so for example you could have your smoothie mid afternoon or right when you get home before dinner… also come on guys… why don’t you start a mythical smoothie bar at the office and stock all your smoothie ingredients and also the equipment…. You could encourage your staff to partake as well and then probably even write it off as a business expense!

Monica Van Norman on March 16, 2022 at 4:32 pm

Since losing my husband to Covid last year, I haven’t been sleeping well at all. Following this so I can try some of these ideas. Currently ASMR is helping. What does Link put in his smoothies???

Smorbie the great and beautiful on March 17, 2022 at 11:39 am

I am so very sorry for your loss.

Lindsey Woods on March 16, 2022 at 9:18 pm

The only thing that no matter what, puts me to sleep - is - Sleepytime Tea.

It sounds and is ridiculous, but pain medicine, muscle relaxers, sleeping pills 'might' work but I drink that silly tea with the bears on the box and I'm ouuuut.

Now, if my sleep schedule is all out of wack, going on a few days (mostly due to obligations not insomnia) whenever I'm 'done' and ready to get back on track - I stay up as long as I possibly can to the point where I just have to close my eyes in exhaustion.

The next day is horrible but, that night I go back to my schedule and the day after is normal and get back on track.

I hope your back sleeping well Rhett!

Jo-Anne Newcomb on March 16, 2022 at 12:49 pm

When I cant fall back asleep l wake up my husband and make him stay awake with me even if he gets mad because he was sound asleep after all it’s not fair I’m awake and he isn’t. The food i cant live without is cheese. Idk why I need it everyday.

Evan Jones on March 16, 2022 at 12:15 pm

If I can't fall back asleep, I still close my eyes and try to relax in the bed. I heard some science/mythbusters type fact that just the act of shutting your eyes does give you some rest if that makes sense.

I have to eat fruit everyday, at least some juice if there's none available. If I don't have that, I don't feel good.

Well- I'm not a dad, I'm a woman and not a mother and my family never really ate dinner together. I do eat dinner with my boyfriend now and we usually watch tv while we eat... but if I had to give some advice like that... I guess it sounds kind of generic but to live your truth? Don't keep secrets from loved ones, if you want something, ask. Be yourself, and actually do so. Might as well live your life exactly how you want to if you can, you know? There's nothing selfish about that. Maybe that is too deep for dinner with kids lol

thanks if anyone read all of that! and ty for the car biscuit internet father pals

Smorbie the great and beautiful on March 17, 2022 at 11:43 am

I've heard that, too. My daddy used to call it "resting his eyes". Sometimes it does help if I'm really tired during the day.
I don't have anything that I always do if I can't sleep. If it's starting to be a problem, I will just delay going to bed until I'm so tired I can't keep my eyes open. That usually straightens it out for awhile. I don't know why.
Also, and I know I'm out there on this one, I keep an eye on what the sun is doing. If there are geomagnetic storms, I always have trouble sleeping. I will take Advil p.m. on those nights.

Somer Flowers on March 16, 2022 at 6:35 pm

Oh boy do I feel for you Rhett! My sleeping took a dump on me when I got chronically ill, and was maybe getting 30-60 minutes a night for 3.5 years. Now in active healing, im getting about 5 hours a night! Can't sleep past 2am. My body is up and going through all the motions of getting stuff out to heal better. But man am I exhausted from no sleep! I did notice that my sleep did get worse when I was trying interminent fasting a couple years ago, and I stopped, but didn't coincide that till you said that! So very wel could be, because that stopped within 6 weeks of me stopping the fasting. I wish you nothing but well on finding your way back to sleep! It is EVERYTHING! ❤️

Beverley Smith on March 16, 2022 at 6:19 pm

if I wake up I'll just go on my phone with headphones, go on youtube specifically an old Earbiscuit and it's not long before my eyes start drooping and I'll switch off and go back to sleep. This is genuinely nothing to do with subject matter but the tone of your voices just lulls me to sleep, it's almost hypnotic!

Kirsty J on March 16, 2022 at 10:54 am

Stop reading fan fic Rhett. Or at least that particular one. It’s too traumatising. 😩😊😂

Sean Marcus Pace on March 16, 2022 at 4:57 pm

I hate that I know exactly which one you're talking about, and I'm not even much of a fanfic reader.

Peoples' natural state, before electricity, was to go to bed much earlier than we do (since, you know, seeing stuff was hard before electric lights), wake up around 2 or so, talk, or make love, or read by candle, or whatever, then fall back asleep around 3-4, then wake up with the sun at 6 or so. I personally subscribe to the "wake up and do something" category. Particularly if you don't have to get out of bed to do it.

Erica is Lost in the Music on March 16, 2022 at 6:27 pm

BAHAHAHAHA!! 😂🤣 Shhhhhhhhh 🤫🤭

Erica is Lost in the Music on March 16, 2022 at 5:53 pm

I naturally intermittent fast and have for years. I'm just not hungry for breakfast. I don't eat until 11-noonish and I am wondering if this might be contributing to my own insomniatic nights. 👀 For the past 2ish years, 3 or 4 nights a week I do the same thing. I fall asleep within moments of my head hitting the pillow but I wake up around 3:30-4am and can't get back to sleep. I've tried laying there doing nothing (bc oh, the light from your phone/circadian rhythms and what not) and I've tried killing time by playing around on my phone and both have the same effect: I end up laying there for 1 or usually 2 hours until I'm tired again and can go back to sleep. I just have to wait it out 'til I'm tired again. That's all.

LOL!! Link's face when he was like, "I don't want you to tell me about it," to which Rhett's response is to tell us all about it, in GREAT detail. 😂🤣

The thing about intermittent fasting is that the supposed benefits are *greatly* debated right now. There's just as much science showing that it really has no benefit. The bottom line is eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full, eat nutrient dense foods. That's it. It's more about calorie quantity and [especially] calorie quality, rather than the time when they're consumed. I HAVE noticed that when I eat more whole, nutrient dense foods, those are the days where I sleep better. 👀

Gosh, we are SO lucky when it comes to our dog Biscuit. Her mother died of parvo but she survived, so she has been in our bed since she was 5 wks old. She is the perfect bed dog--except she likes to get up in the wee hours of the morning & vigorously lick my husband's bald head for no reason. 😂 It shakes the whole bed.

BLESS YOU, Rhett. 🤧 Love y'all. 🫶🏻🥰

Smorbie the great and beautiful on March 16, 2022 at 11:32 am

My kids found a kitten someone had taken into Target, put in a cage, and left. They named him Biscuit. It's the kind of name that screams 'cute and spoiled'. He is both.

Erica is Lost in the Music on March 16, 2022 at 6:34 pm

Awwww! That is so awesome that y'all took him in! And YES, Biscuit absolutely DOES scream "cute and spoiled". Ours is both, as well. 🤣👏🏻

Smorbie the great and beautiful on March 17, 2022 at 11:45 am

Once my daughter saw him, it was game over.

Teresanne on March 16, 2022 at 9:47 am

I have had this similar sleep issue for about 7 years now, I'll get up and do a small household task, have some water, then get back in bed. It helps the majority of the time.

Smorbie the great and beautiful on March 17, 2022 at 11:46 am

Oh, that's cool. What kind of task do you choose to do?

Teresanne on March 17, 2022 at 11:57 am

I went into it a little more in the discord- but I’ll do a small task, like fold laundry, sweep, something similar.
Small and simple, just enough to refocus my mind away from fixating on being awake.
Have some water then get back in bed.
